Healthy Lifestyles

  • Slide Title

Good health requires practice. It means not only having a place to go where you get the chance to run, jump, kick, throw and high-five; it also means eating right and having the knowledge and confidence necessary to choose wisely. Boys & Girls Clubs are 100% committed to every aspect of a healthy lifestyle. That’s why we provide the right resources – from coaches to carrots – to help kids make the right choices. Boys & Girls Club's Healthy Lifestyles programming helps young people learn that informed decisions about health and social issues can mean the difference between a life without options and a life filled with hope.
An increasing number of young people are not getting sufficient exercise or developing positive routines to ensure their long-term health. Our Clubs offer members a variety of activities to keep them active and healthy.

This nationally-acclaimed comprehensive prevention program helps young people resist alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, as well as premature sexual activity. SMART Moves features engaging, interactive small group activities designed to increase participants’ peer support, enhance life skills, build resiliency and strengthen leadership skills. The program’s components include: SMART Kids, for children ages 6-9; Start SMART, for youth ages 10-13; and Stay SMART, for youth ages 14-18. All modules of this program address age-appropriate issues to help youth make wise choices, adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors and develop positive character traits.

Smart-Girl is a prevention and enrichment program designed to engage girls in activities that develop their social-emotional skills. Smart-Girl gives girls the chance to think about and discuss the challenges they encounter and to formulate and practice appropriate and productive responses. Through this process, Smart-Girl nurtures girls’ social-emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills – qualities proven to lead to success in life.

Members at each of our Clubs have the opportunity to engage in hands-on comprehensive healthy eating activities. Youth practice making healthful options together and taste the results.
