Boys & Girls Club Grant Means Academic Success

The Boys & Girls Club of Yankton received $1.1 million in grant funding to be spent over five years to partner with area schools. The Club works with the Yankton School District to provide enhanced after-school tutoring and academic success programming. This grant was awarded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Pilot programming began Fall of 2021.

The overall goal of this five-year program is to provide all elementary students in Yankton with the opportunity for academic success. The Boys & Girls Club does this by working with students to reach grade-level reading and math skills, as well as making sure Yankton families are supported with transportation, mental health services, and healthy food options.

The Club Tutor Program works with students in 1st - 5th grade through teacher referral based on reading and math testing scores. This program is run by Amber Hinnerichs, Boys & Girls Club of Yankton Education Director.

The After-School Club Tutor Program is run out of each public elementary school, including Beadle, Lincoln, Stewart, and Webster Elementary, Monday - Friday from after-school to 5:30 PM. Summer Club Tutor Program runs for 10 weeks during the summer from 8:00 AM - noon for students going into 1st - 5th grade for the upcoming school year.
