    ACADEMIC SUCCESS

    Button
The Boys & Girls Club offers the perfect solution for helping all kids overcome the achievement and opportunity gap. It’s more than just reading, writing and problem solving. It’s exploring, experimenting and expanding upon the lessons learned during the school day that helps our Club members succeed in the real world. We don’t just help kids get good grades; we help them get inspired and empowered to build a better future for themselves. Educationally-enriching activities in every area of the Club – from the art room, to the gym, to the tech lab – are built on deliberate skill-building to complement Club members’ traditional academic instruction and spark young people’s passions.

By the time they reach 6th grade, middle class kids have likely spent 6,000 more hours learning than kids born into poverty. Through engaging academic and career programs, Boys & Girls Club is filling the learning gap faced by many of the kids and families we serve.

These are just some of the key programs Boys & Girls Clubs offers that are focused on our Academic Success Priority Outcome:

STEM

Clubs frequently offer activities and programs designed to develop members’ skills in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects. The primary goals of our technology programs are to provide youth with access to technology, develop members’ technical skills, promote workforce readiness by increasing career options for young people, and support members’ academic performance.

HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE

Each day after school, our youth development specialists and dedicated volunteers help Club members become more successful in school by providing homework help, tutoring and by encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

JUNIOR STAFF CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Boys & Girls Club offers teens the chance to be employed as leaders throughout the Club, building life skills and applying academic skills in a real-world context. While working at the Clubs, participants learn valuable job skills for future careers while they run the front desk, supervise the gameroom and maintain the membership tracking system.

MONEY MATTERS – MAKE IT COUNT

A program for Club members ages 13 – 18, sponsored by the Charles Schwab Foundation, promoting financial responsibility and independence by building basic money management skills.

COLLEGE PREP

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northern Plains provides our Club members with tools and resources for applying to, paying for and understanding the college experience.

SUMMER BRAIN GAIN

Summer Brain Gain is a fun, educational program that aims to prevent summer learning loss and keep kids on track for the coming school year.
